Off Grid Sauna Cabin
Personal Work
A collective of my friends and I built a fully off the grid, wood fired sauna in Bethlehem, New Hampshire.
Three amateur builders handled all aspects: we did everything including drawing up the plans, drilling into bedrock for the footings, framing the structure, and air sealing the building.
The sauna room is designed to have R-75 insulation to reach 200 degrees F in 0 degrees F ambient temperature using a wood stove. I created air intakes and venting to increase convective heating in the sauna and maintain fresh air with the wood stove raging.
In true New Hampshire fashion, this structure is hidden, and not listed as a dwelling. The green siding is designed to blend into the greenery.
