SP1 device product shot

Mountain Hub is the first global real-time network for the outdoors that pulls together a fragmented data landscape into a single platform. The hardware collects snowpack structure data to assess avalanche risk.

I was the initial engineer joining the three-founder team, helping transition their prototype into a manufactured product. The team navigated manufacturing challenges in China without prior experience in the field.

The Problem

Traditional snowpack analysis requires digging pits and manually testing snow layers — a subjective, 45-minute process. The SP1 and SCOPE products reduced this to a 20-second assessment shareable among skiers.

SP2

Following a successful SP1 launch, the team refined the design based on field testing feedback, adding a second optical depth sensor, enlarging the force sensor, improving GPS accuracy, and updating graphics.
